Storm Panel Hurricane Shutters

There are different types of hurricane shutters; this post focuses on storm panel hurricane shutters.

Storm panel hurricane shutters are for you if you are looking to protect concrete, masonry construction and only want a protection on when necessary. Storm panel hurricane shutters are effective and inexpensive though not the most pretty to look at. These shutters are corrugated and may be made from either steel or aluminum. They are bolted or slipped into tracks on windows and doors to be protected. New varieties of storm panel hurricane shutters are also available in polycarbonate material which offers access to light and sight. Plywood panels can also be used for protection as they are easy to manufacture and use; however plywood panels are not recommended for protection from hurricanes and tropical storms.

There are different types of storm panels, for example one type can be fixed using both tracks and bolts that are permanently fixed to the bottom of the window. Another type uses only bolts that can be loosened and secured as required.

It’s a good idea to label each panel so that you know where it fits on a shutter meant for a given window. With a storm approaching, its imperative that you get the shutters up as quickly as possible.

The advantages with storm panel shutters are that they are removable and hence do not permanently alter the look of your home when they are removed. On the other hand since they are used only when the need arises, they require storage space. Putting them up takes effort and it requires more than one person to do the job. It’s not fun trying to install these shutters, climbing ladders, and working with a storm approaching. You can also install these shutters on the inside of the windows. Before purchasing hurricane storm panels check to ensure that they meet your county building codes regarding materials and panel thickness. Get the necessary permit and authorization before you commence installing the shutters. Check if the distributor who is selling the shutters also offers installation, it may help you get some discount. Getting the necessary permits and doing the installation right is important as it can help you get a discount with your homeowners insurance.

On an average a storm shutter costs around $7-$8 per square foot.

I am very pleased with my new impact windows and accordion shutters.  Your product is excellent and your installers were fast, courteous, and professional.  My next door neighbors were impressed as well and should be calling you soon.

I have sent you a few photos of some of the windows with accordion blinds open. They look great, even better, they can be closed from the inside being that I have a 2 story home. Your product is among the very best in this country. Thanks.
