- Evacuation east of the Intracoastal Waterway is mandatory in
any category of hurricane. Evacuation east of U.S. 1 (Federal
Highway) east is mandatory in a Category 3 or higher hurricane.
- Hotel and motel tenants/guests are advised to leave the
evacuation area once the evacuation order is given and go to
either a hotel/motel in west Broward County, or a Red Cross
shelter.
- Those evacuating to a hotel/motel must provide their own
transportation.
Click here for a list of hotel/motel locations and contact
information.
- For those evacuating to a shelter,
click
here for a listing of Red Cross shelters. Shelters are a
refuge of last resort and provide for basic needs only. See the
"Shelters" section of this document for a list of suggested
items shelter visitors should bring to make their stay more
comfortable.
- For transportation pick-up points to Red Cross hurricane
shelters for tourists and residents without transportation, call
the Hurricane Hotline at 954-831-4000 or visit the
Broward County Transit
web site. The pick-up points are generally located along A1A on
the beaches. Those evacuating from the beach area can also flag
down any Broward County Transit bus for pick-up.
